“Building 106 efficiency units for very low-income individuals, including some who are often homeless, over a ground level of supportive services, landscaped common areas, community spaces, and retail tenants in a new, Type III, LEED Platinum, six-story, mixed-use building in the heart of downtown Los Angeles will always present difficult challenges. Such was the case for the New Genesis Apartments developed by Skid Row Housing Trust and designed by Killefer Flammang Architects (KFA).
As a member of the KFA architectural team, it was on this project that I was introduced to G. B. Construction, Inc. I enjoyed working with them on what could have easily turned into a contentious experience for all involved. Since the Owner, Architect, Builder, and Construction Manager were always focused on the same goal, this never was allowed to happen. There was always an effort and desire to deliver a quality product within a given budget and schedule.
